Cemetery of Lust: Orgies of Abomination
It's never a dull moment when sifting through the new releases from the folks over at Hells Headbangers, and here we have a lovely little collection of songs titled Orgies of Abomination from Portland miscreants Cemetery of Lust. Take one look at the track listing and you can be certain that this isn't something you'll want to put on as background music on the next romantic evening with your significant other, or, if you are perhaps a bit younger, don't let Mom & Dad know you have this one in your collection. This is raw, vile, extreme, and violent stuff for sure, not really fitting squarely into any one genre, but certainly containing elements of death metal, thrash, hardcore, punk, and well, just about any other form of metal in some form or another. "Cum on the Cross" ? I'm not going to say that I'm in agreement with some of the themes here, but this song does kick major ass, and "Ride the Beast", plus a few other songs for that matter, remind me of some of that early Celtic Frost/Hellhammer stuff, which is always fun. I personally like it when these guys slow things down a bit for some grinding, doomy death metal/hardcore styled material, as some of the tracks tend to be fast for the sake of being fast. Truth be told, if Orgies of Abomination came out in the late '80s when S.O.D. , M.O.D., and bands of their ilk were all the rage in the metal underground, I can totally see how a lot of young headbangers would have gotten into this band. So, chalk this up as being an album that can easily become a guilty pleasure and a lot of fun.
