Fluisteraars: Dromers

This album, released at the end of January, is the first official full-length from the Dutch black metal group Fluisteraars. Fans may know their music from the couple of demos the band released before then. For their debut, their broader introduction to the public, the band offers listeners three lengthy tracks, all of which explore the various depths, emotions, and sounds of black metal. I liked the way each song winded around various musical ideas, never staying on any one particular theme or motif. This wandering gave the music more variety and allowed the band to show their strength at creating atmosphere. The guitars especially sounded great on this one. The songs, overall, are good but go on a little too long. Oddly enough, I preferred the mellower sections of these tracks over the more traditional black metal stuff. Ultimately, this is a good debut from a promising band.
