Infernal Curse: The End Upon Us
The other day, I watched three disaster movies—Poseidon, 2012, and The Day After Tomorrow. There are many others I could have watched, but I kind of like those three. Even though Poseidon isn't about the end of the world, it does fit the category pretty well. I mean, what if everything we knew just ended, quickly?
I mention those films because of the title of this short release: The End Upon Us. Everyone is imagining the end of the world these days and not just in the movies. Several bands are also playing up an apocalyptic theme, trying their hardest to capture an apocalyptic gloom in their music. Infernal Curse, an Argentinean black / death metal band, brings their own version of the apocalypse here through a relentless onslaught of drums, guitars, and the raspiest vocals I've heard lately. The sound quality here isn't great. There isn't much low end and things sometimes sound pretty tinny. The mix also sounds like everything is being pushed into the same place, often making it hard to distinguish things through the distortion. I'm sure the rawness of this release is part of this band's sound, perhaps even their overall musical purpose. As an underground release, this isn't too bad. Still, I'd like to hear a more polished offering from these guys.
