You have to love labels like Rise Above Relics, who search far and wide for quality underground heavy rock recordings from the 1970s that would have otherwise remained undiscovered. Their latest release is Our Revolution from the duo of guitarist Roger Lomas and guitarist/singer Pip Whitcher, otherwise known as Rog & Pip. The two musicians were previously members of the band The Sorrows, but recorded a bunch of songs together throughout the '70s after leaving that band, the results are here on display with Our Revolution.
From the chugging proto-metal sounds of "Why Won't You Do What I Want?", "Evil Hearted Woman", and "Gold", to the Status Quo styled boogie of the title track and "Rock With Me", all the way to the hard rocking glam of the Sweet influenced "Doin' Alright Tonight", there's plenty of variety here and it's all quite catchy. "A Little Rock 'n' Roll" sounds like a fun collision between T Rex & Cactus, while "Hot Rodder" just pushes all the right glam buttons for any fan of David Bowie, Sweet, or Slade. When the duo get down to some heavy, hard rocking boogie, as on "Why Do You Treat Me Like That?, it's not hard to headbang along and get your air guitar out. "From a Window" combines psychedelia with proto-metal, as the guys display the influence of Led Zeppelin, and the crushing "Warlord" brings beefy Black Sabbath styled riffs with some swagger that wouldn't have sounded out of place on an old Cactus album.
Our Revolution is a hell of a lot of fun for any lover of vintage '70s hard rock. Filled with memorable songs that contain strong vocals and plenty of tasty guitar riffs, this is a CD that is a must hear for fans of classic sounds.
