Here's another Iron Man vinyl reissue, this one the bands third album from 1999, titled Generation Void. Though it had been 5 years since The Passage, the Maryland doom horde did not miss a beat, as this release contained another wealth of exciting, Black Sabbath/Pentagram inspired doom that deserved far wider exposure than it actually got. Perhaps a tad more upbeat overall than its predecessor, Generation Void still features no shortage of booming riffs courtesy of Al Morris. "Boston Strangler", "Survivor", "As the Gods Have Spoken", and the monstrous title track just flat out kill, the groove-a-licious riffs so massive, with vocalist Dan Michalak soaring over the top of it all. Though the occasional prog-rock touch rears its head at times, like on the adventurous "Winds of Change" and the gorgeous instrumental "Ironica Blue", it's the bruising doom numbers such as "Forever Yours" and "Juggernaut" that provide the meat to this platter, and it's a hefty meal anyway you slice it. How these guys have toiled in the doom underground for so long is beyond comprehension. If you are a fan of this genre and haven't checked Iron Man out yet, it's something you must do immediately.
