Vultures is the second album from Greek psychedelic/stoner/proto-metal upstarts1000Mods, and continues on with their plan to deliver trippy, bluesy, fuzz driven heavy songs in the grand tradition of Monster Magnet, Alice in Chains, Blue Cheer, MC5, Black Sabbath, The Stooges, and Kyuss. Look for plenty of heavy riffs, acid laced wah-wah guitar solos, sweaty beer soaked vocals, and pounding, groove laden rhythms. It's not the most original style going today, but 1000Mods have crafted some memorable tunes here, like the rumbling psychedelia of "Big Beautiful", the melancholy drenched "She", the Doors-meets-Black Sabbath trip that is "Horses' Green", the grungy, blues-metal attack of "Claws", or the alluring, heroin haze of the dramatic title track. A few of the tunes sound almost too similar to each other, as there is clearly a lack of variety at times, but on the whole Vultures is a pretty solid affair for all you stoner loving maniacs out there.
