Grave Digger: Return of the Reaper

Grave Digger are a remarkably prolific band and The Return of the Reaper is their seventeenth album – this is all the more remarkable as the band didn't exist for a hefty period of the late 80s/early 90s. When the band returned in 1993 it was with The Reaper album and now he has returned!

My problem is that he takes his time in getting going, much of the early part of the album is by-the-numbers Euro metal, which is what Grave Digger do best to be fair, but there's no spark, no fire until "Grave Desecrator" appears with its supremely catchy, politically incorrect chorus which is followed by the equally parent bating "Satan's Host" (sample lyric, "Obey my prayer, suck my dick,") and the rest of the album is so much more fun than the first half especially the ballad "Nothing to Believe". Even the lead single "Hell Funeral" lacks the necessary spark but when it gets good The Return of the Reaper is very good.
