Miasmic Theory: Miasmic Theory

Gothenburg's Miasmic Theory second album attempts to, "a new dimension to the already classic and well-known The Gothenburg Sound," and a decent shouty follow up to 2013's Sound of Desperation it most certainly is. The band describes the album as, "A mixture between Meshuggah rhythms and classic death metal with punk influences," with some justification. If one was to also lob in some references to Pantera, Lamb of God or even Clutch you may get an idea of Miasmic Theory. Thunderous riffs abound in every song as indeed do funky grooves and a sense of power. I'm not confident that the songs are necessarily quite up to scratch at this point in time but clearly the band have the chops and I am sure that the tunes will improve as they progress in their career.
