Blackberry Smoke: Leave a Scar-Live in North Carolina

Atlanta, Georgia's Blackberry Smoke have slowly been making a name for themselves out on the Southern Rock & country trail over the last few years, and their brand new double live album Leave a Scar-Live in North Carolina is a testament to all the hard work they have put in out on the road. Packed with all of their most memorable tunes, this is a fun 2CD set filled with honest & energetic performances from the band, and a perfect soundtrack to your next summer BBQ or pool party, as well as that Sunday drive with the windows down here in the summer of 2014.

Any fan of The Black Crowes, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws, and The Marshall Tucker Band will certainly have a blast with Blackberry Smoke. This is feel good, boogie rock & roll with more than a healthy dose of country twang, the Southern swamp element creeping through at every juncture. Sing along anthems like "Six Ways to Sunday", "Good One Comin' On", "Sanctified Woman", "Ain't Much Left of Me", and "Son of the Bourbon" sit well alongside scorching Southern Rock fare such as "Shakin' Hands With the Holy Ghost", "Testify", and "Sleeping Dogs". The band, Charlie Starr (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Richard Turner (Bass, Vocals), Brit Turner (Drums), Paul Jackson (Guitar, Vocals), and Brandon Still (Keyboards), also know their classic rock, so be on the lookout for some little bits thrown throughout that pay homage to their heroes. As with any raucous Southern Rock live album, there's plenty of tasty guitar picking happening, like some heavy riffs & ripping lead guitar work backed by organ on the hard rocking "Restless" or the extended Allman Brothers styled explorations of "Sleeping Dogs". Skynyrd fans will love the raunchy "Payback's a Bitch", and I dare anyone to stop themselves from getting up on their feet to the groove laden sounds of the Black Crowes influenced "Shake Your Magnolia".

In summary, if you have a soft spot for live Southern Rock albums, you'll need to add this one to your collection. Blackberry Smoke have so much appeal, especially with many of today's country artists basically Southern bands who inject lots of rock into their country pop formula, and I can easily see this band blowing up huge in the very near future.
