From Los Angeles comes Crowned By Fire, a hard hitting, groove laden machine delivering a no-nonsense brand of classic stoner metal. Their latest release, Space Music For Cave People, is cleverly titled, as it delivers riff driven mashers that you don't need to think about much, just crack open a cold one, get yer air guitar ready and prepare to bang thy head. Guitarist Justin Manning seems to have a healthy love for Zakk Wylde, so look for plenty of thick, doomy riffing, screaming pinch harmonics, and blazing lead guitar solos throughout crushing tunes like "Light Ov the Voodoo Star", "Buried Away", and "Crowned By Fire". The band also has a slight Southern Rock side too, evident on "Something in Her Blood" and the groovy title track, with vocalist John Fitterer doing his best mix of Ozzy, Phil Anselmo, Ronnie Van Zandt, and Kirk Windstein. A stoner version of the Blue Oyster Cult classic "Burnin' For You" is a little bizarre, and while kind of fun I would have rather heard another original tune by this very solid band. Overall, good stuff from a band that certainly has plenty of appeal for those into Black Label Society, Kyuss, Monster Magnet, and Crowbar.
