Transubstans Records is reissuing this very fine 2012 debut release from Polish doom act Major Kong. Doom for the Black Sun is now seeing its first ever appearance on vinyl. The album was originally recorded live with no overdubs, as Major Kong simply went into the studio and knocked this one right out, their instrumental might resulting in six semi-lengthy tracks of stoner/doom bliss. Lots of fuzz permeating the heavy riffing on songs like "The Swamp Altar", "IDDQD", and the menacing "Acid Transformation", while guitarist Misiek goes out on a lengthy excursion utilizing wah-wah and feedback on the psychedelic "Primordial Gas Clouds". For pure Saint Vitus/Black Sabbath worship, look no further than the mammoth stomp of "Witches On My Land", a tune with no shortage of crushing riffs, wah-wah solos, and pounding drum work. As good as most of this all is, with the tunes being pretty lengthy you do miss having vocals in spots, which might have added a bit of variety to some of these songs as they do tend to meander a little, but for overall doom/stoner heaviness, this one's a keeper.
