Children of Technology: Future Decay
Some promotional comments simply demand to be repeated. For this band, Children of Technology, the language in question suggests that this album brings "every cult 80s movie to feature bikers, zombies, and zombie bikers and set them across a bleak, bombed-out landscape that's their own choosing rather than one that's already been created." I love it; here's a band that combines a zombie biker ethos and combines with the joys of weird and wild 80s film. Not a bad combination. I doubt it can really describe the music here, but I don't mind.
I also really liked the cover art, particularly the kind scythe held by the skeleton in the middle of the picture. Good stuff.
The music here is basically speed metal that hasn't forgotten the necessity of its punk roots. I was especially fond of the first three tracks: "Future Decay," "Remembrance Day" and "Blackout." "Last Sunshine Gleaming" was also pretty great. The singer does this weird shriek on that track, a high-pitched punctuation that gave the track a unique vocal twist. He also does a pretty good Rob Halford-like screech near the beginning of "Fear the Mohawk Reaper." Listeners who like pretty straightforward speed metal, played with the occasional high-pitched shriek should enjoy this one.
