Pineapple Thief, The: Magnolia
As I write Magnolia is apparently poised to enter the UK charts, possibly in the Top 40. Now, it would be within the realms of fairness to suggest that band are becoming more mainstream and commercial with each successive release but to describe them as, "indie," as the Digital Spy website did this week is still somewhat if not wholly wide of the mark.
I so wanted to like Magnolia, however, it seems that the band have abandoned their sense of adventure and gone down the road marked, "middle," and as Neil Young memorably told us, that's not where the interesting people hang out. There are some highlights to enjoy such as "The One You Left To Die" which is at least quite angry with Edge style chiming guitars, however, the rest is a bit bland and remarkably reminiscent of Coldplay and would be welcome on Radio 2 or wherever housewives hang out.
