From Boston comes Wormwood, and their self-titled for Magic Bullet Records. Five tracks of seriously monolithic sludge & doom, featuring some massive guitar & bass riffing, plodding rhythms, and tortured vocal wailing. "Indoctrination" rumbles along like a runaway freight train with Celtic Frost in the conductor seat, and "White Plague" has enough feedback laden fuzz drenched power chords to power up a 747. Problem is, all these songs sound way too similar, and are too brief to really build up an identity, save for the 'plodding riffs/feedback/agonizing vocals' formula that just seems to repeat itself from track to track. That's not to say that this isn't well done and quite heavy, cause it is, but I'd like to see Wormwood take this concept to the next level and flesh out their sound & their songs just a little bit more.
