Raum Kingdom: Raum Kingdom

With this, their first release, Ireland's Raum Kingdom, offer listeners a heavy, brooding, album that has touches of post-metal, heavy riffs, and a dark, powerful atmosphere. The release, a thirty minute EP, is enough to give a good impression. The music here is moody and dark, sometimes reflective and intimate and sometimes aggressive and angry. There are even times when the two come together, creating an angry, yet thoughtful, music. I'm thinking in particular of the angry words that make up the lyrics to "Cross Reference." That track, though not always easy to listen to, is nevertheless one of the more powerful on this release. I'd recommend it for its originality and its overall passion. Whether the words are offensive will have to be up to you.

I like this band when they are experimenting with post-rock sounds. There's a cool atmosphere that comes from ringing chords and minimal structures that I enjoy. As a new band in a crowded market, Raum Kingdom seems like one worth checking out.
