The Black Noodle Project: Ghosts & Memories
What started out as the French musician, Jeremie Grima's one person project in 2001, has grown into an actual band over the years and several releases later. Their latest release is entitled Ghosts & Memories and it is a beautifully somber and eerie album. It is 7 tracks of dank and dark imagery that paints a picture that would be perfect in a David Lynch film! It is a perfect slice of heavy Psychedelic Prog Rock in the vain of the darker material from Porcupine Tree or Pink Floyd or maybe even Opeth at times, but the spatial tapestries that these guys paint are just exquisite. Brooding, melancholy and hopelessly dark and I love it!
This is slow and dark progressive music done very well that is steeped in the moody mires of one's cerebral cortex and the atmosphere that The Black Noodle Project is able to capture is nothing short of stunning. Vocals are in that sullen Steven Wilson type of vibe, while the musicianship is quite beautiful and when they decide to get heavy, they remind me of a band like Anathema.
The Black Noodle Project have found a way to incorporate the stylings and influences of bands like a Radiohead and the afore mentioned Porcupine Tree and still manage to sound very much like neither of them, in whole. The majestic and airy soundscapes that are created and absolutely meant to be listened to as an entire record, from start to finish and to try to pick out a highlight track is difficult, as they all flow together almost seamlessly, but for me the songs, "Voices From Yesterday" that then flows into "Ghosts" seems to really capture the bands overall vibe. Eerie as well as very ugly and yet quite beautiful and very David Lynchian, The Black Noodle Project have a morbidly eloquent CD in Ghosts & Memories. I highly recommend it!
