Bloodbound: Stormborn

I recently received an e-mail from a rainforest-named online retailer informing me of the following: "Bloodbound celebrate finest Power Metal on their latest album Stormborn. The six guys from Sweden deliver 11 songs that without a doubt deserve to be called hymns - the sixth album of these Swedes has everything you need for singing along and headbanging." Deserve to be called hymns? What's all that about? No idea, but Stormborn confirms Bloodbound as one of the better acts working in the genre today.

Bloodbound have always made top notch super catchy power metal and this album is no different from Satanic Panic's Powerwolf –meets-Edguy to the end of the album the fairly settled line-up of Patrik Johansson – vocals, Tomas Olsson – guitars, Henrik Olsson – guitars, Anders Broman – bass, Fredrik Bergh – keyboards with Pelle Akerlind – drums have produced a real statement of intent which draws upon influences within the power metal fraternity but is nonetheless definitively Bloodbound. "Iron Throne" initially sounds like Avantasia before becoming something much heavier whilst "Nightmare From the Dead" is a strong contender for catchiest tune of the year, best riff and best use of children's choir! If that one doesn't win the first two of those awards then "We Raise the Dead" should!

If you won't take my word for it why not take on board these testimonials taken from Bloodbound's Facebook page? Joacim Cans ( Hammerfall )"My favourite Swedish metal band has done it again! As metal as it gets!" Joakim Brodén ( Sabaton ) "Great melodies and one of the best voices in metal right now! This is the future of Power Metal!" Pär Sundström ( Sabaton ) "Bloodbound is just getting better and better and with their new album they are on top of their genre." I'm with these boys on this one and am currently working how high to put it on my year end list.
