John Taglieri doesn't play prog, although his music includes influences by prog-ish artists like Toto. But Taglieri has followed a progressive path in the way he releases his music. The singer-songwriter has issued 12(!) albums in 15 years — almost unheard of these days. Many of those releases are EPs, which ensure his fan base won't forget about him.
Days Like These is Taglieri's latest EP, which celebrates the fact that some musicians can make a comfortable living in the digital era without being a household name and relying on major labels to survive. After forays into pop and country, Taglieri returns to his comfort zone of breezy melodic rock. He sings about fatherhood (the rollicking title track) and the contentment that comes from settling down with the one you love (the arena-ready "Here for the Taking"). He then counters that joy with the moody ballad "Thin Air."
Tag, as his fans call him, sings with a slightly nasal tone that's overpowered by his sheer enthusiasm. What's more, he's backed by Kenny Aronoff, one of the best drummers in the rock biz.
Clocking in at 22 minutes, Days Like These provides a short rush of exhilarating music that's bound to put you in a better mood.
