Iron Reagan: The Tyranny of Will

Typing up the long track list for this album makes me want to write a short review just to give my fingers a break. Still, Iron Reagan deserves some commentary, so I'll forge on.

Most people know that this band is a side project by Tony Foresta from Municipal Waste, another killer band. The other members of the band come from bands like Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse, Darkest Hour, and Mammoth Grinder. The list could go on but you get the idea—Iron Reagan is a project that brings all these guys together to create some crossover metal / punk and to rant about contemporary American culture. I hesitate to call Iron Reagan a "supergroup." That label is too easily used and often discounts the idea of getting together and having fun. Remember S.O.D.? It's that kind of thing—a commitment to the larger punk ethos and to make music together.

So how's the music on this album? It's good. There's a lot of it, but things move pretty quickly from track to track. Look, these guys aren't trying to reinvent music; they are just jamming on some pretty simple ideas for its own sake. The result is a nod not only to the glory days of punk but is also a reminder that music like this still has plenty of power.
