Period: 2
Period specialize in avant-garde, improvised music with their first self-titled album released in 2006. Their sophomore effort 2 was released a few months back and is available on Public Eyesore.
Let us cut straight to the chase. This is an incredibly difficult album to get into. I really tried but the lack of coherent song structures and melodies made the task impossible, much like traveling at the speed of light. If you want a song completely devoid of melody look no further than the album's first track "Two", featuring almost seventeen minutes of angular guitar chords and sporadic drum beats. I could handle this style for a few minutes but I lost interest well before the song's end. The next track "Four" is no better beginning with screaming vocals, chaotic guitar noise and rapid fire drumming that essentially continues through the song's entire length. Just as bad is "Ten" with its squelching bursts of saxophone, horrible vocalizations and random guitar noise. There is no point describing any more tracks as I am sure by now you can well imagine what the rest of the album is like.
So, there isn't anything to recommend here, at least coming from my perspective. This is an hour of my life I can never get back and for that I am truly disappointed. Even my cat had a hard time being in the same room. Tread cautiously indeed.
