Palo Colorado Dream is Anthony Pirog's first album as a bandleader and he peers out from the bottom corner of the cover looking for all the world like a young Warren Zevon juxtaposed against the tranquil mountains and seascapes, however, don't be misled by that image. Yes, there are noodly, relaxing, dreamlike sequences but when he hits the button marked, 'solo', things really come alive as on most of the last couple of minutes of "The Great Northern". Pirog has studied at Berklee College of Music and clearly knows his chops but this is pretty accessible whilst also boundary pushing and I am sure we will hear a lot more good stuff in the years to come.
