Radiocroma: Il Corso Dei Balocchi
Radiocroma is an Italian progressive rock band made up of Alessandro Toto (Toso), on lead vocals, chitarre, ukulele, theremin, piano, scacciapensieri, and programming: Gianluca Materiale, (Jean Paul), on bass, Fender Rhodes, acoustic guitar on "Sulla Strada Di Cantů"; and Mauro Serra, on video cartoons.
Guest artists include: Antonio Romanelli – battery; Emanuele Palombo Cerrito – accordion; Danilo Colantonio, on tuba; and Diana Pelagalli, on clarinet.
The band plays a quirky kind of progressive rock similar to a good mix of Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, with some folk and other rock influences permeating the mix.
The lyrics are all in Italian, so I don't know what they were singing about. But the music was interesting enough to enjoy at times. "Il Timido Attanasio" had an almost traditional Italian folk beat to it, which would be good to dance to in a beer tavern after several birras.
"Sul Ciglio Della Strada" is an eerie stroll along the roadside that will have you looking behind you ever couple of minutes.
"Corso Dei Balocchi" opens like one of my favorite '70s memories: "Hot Buttered Popcorn" Google it...you'll see and hear what I mean.
"La Bolla" has some excellent bass sounds along with the keyboard accompaniment.
"Sul Ciglio Della Strada" starts off like some famous Pink Floyd launching guitars from their early days.
All eleven tracks are right around 4 minutes long, so you never get bored.
This was an interesting new sound that is original despite my earlier comparisons. Get this album if you want to hear something arranged completely different.
