Rabbits: Untoward
Some people describe this kind of music in terms of debauchery. Although I've never quite understood how music like this could be seen in that light, Rabbits is beginning to help me. The idea, I think, is to draw on a term that captures how rough and sloppy and dirty music like this is. No, I'm not talking about the lyrical content, though I suppose it could apply. Instead, I'm talking about the way the music sounds: it's rough and threatening, coming at the listener like an intruder bursting into one's home and threatening everyone with violence.
As for the album, it's really strong. Tracks like "Ever Mind" and "So Fake It's Real" really stood out. So did the long and sluggish "Like You A Lot," a track that reminded me, oddly enough, of the way The Beatles sounded when they were trying to represent the end of the world. Put another way, this is music aspiring to the status of chaos—and it is entirely convincing. Fans of anarchic sound organized into extreme metal should enjoy this one.
Track Listing:
1. Ever Mind
2. Pack Up Your Shit
3. So Fake It's Real
4. Reek and Ye Shall Find
5. An Odd Coloration
6. Like You a Lot
