Silent So Long is the second album by Emigrate the group formed by Rammstein guitarist Richard Kruspe. Richard remains the main man behind the mic and his vocals are still sung in English. There are also guest appearances from other vocalists on Silent So Long including the likes of Lemmy Kilmister(Motorhead), Jonathan Davis(Korn) and Marilyn Manson sings on "Hypothetical".
For those new to Emigrate Silent So Long isn't a Rammstein style album if that's what you're expecting, though if one track does have some resemblance to that band it's the heavier "My Pleasure". Besides the fact that Emigrate's vocals are in another language Silent So Long shares little in common with that tanz/industrial metal music of Rammstein, if anything Emigrate's self-titled debut from 2007 had more in the way of similarities though they were limited. Emigrate is Richard Kruspe's opportunity do something else and that he does, like the modern/electro groove on "Get Down" which is quite ok but does tend to get a touch repetitive, and is saved by the fact that the band does kick it up a gear towards the end. With some exceptions Silent So Long is not an ultra heavy album it's more geared towards rock than metal, but it's far from a lightweight effort. Compared to those on their debut some songs don't have quite that same immediate appeal, which is probably more due to that unexpected variety shown which catches you off guard somewhat like the above mentioned "Get Down". Standout tracks include the catchy rockers "Eat You Alive", "Rainbow", "My Pleasure" and the heavy hitting slower "Faust".
Silent So Long is a pleasing and varied release with some surprising inclusions from Emigrate, and it all comes together very well.
