Display of Decay: Outbreak of Infection
This EP actually came out a few months ago, so it may seem a bit like old news to read about it now. Still, it's a pretty good release, one that may interest some of our readers right now. I really liked the cover art on this one; it shows a monstrous figure menacing a city street, blood running down his insides. Whatever this creature is, it's obvious that he was once human and that he's got something bad.
The band, like that poor creature, is ready to hit the streets and spread whatever it carries, for better and for worse. Fortunately, they are worth catching. The music is straightforward death metal, performed with plenty of power. Kiss fans will definitely want to check out the awesome cover of "Black Diamond." Display of Decay's version isn't as long as the original, but it stays true to the spirit of the thing while giving it a killer death metal makeover.
The band's original songs are a bit less melodic than "Black Diamond," but they are no less memorable. I especially enjoyed "The Manchurian Candidate," especially the part where the vocals deliver the title with as much menace as possible. I'll never think of that story the same way again. I also enjoyed "Praise the Gore."
Display of Decay is definitely a band worth checking out!
