Their influences are quite the mixture taking inspiration from groups such as Savatage, Nevermore, Symphony X, Emperor and Queen. They are the Norwegian progressive power/thrash metal band Sapredon. When getting to know their debut album Anomic Nation the metal band Nevermore were the first group to spring to mind, though Sarepdon are not at the same level.
Sarpedon are a four piece metal group, and two of their members are the multitasking brothers Erik and Torgeir Krokfjord. Erik is Sarpedon's vocalist and he also plays keyboards, while the bass and guitar is the work of Torgeir. That leaves drummer Carl Engstrom who has an extreme metal background and keyboardist Andreas Wærholm completes Sarpedon's lineup. This isn't the easiest album to review Anomic Nation really is a mixture of good times and puzzling ones as some parts don't seem to connect, like where the vocal style of Erik Krokfjord just doesn't sound like the right fit. As unlike his brother Torgeir's stirring guitar work the vocals lack that same appeal. Sarpedon have the chops and there is some gripping music to be found here like on the rather long closing track "My Mysteries Unwind - Part II", but I can't get past the vocals so I'd rather be listening to something else.
