Ancient VVisdom: Sacrificial

I'm going to call this a quiet album, even though that term isn't as accurate as I'd like it to be. My purpose in using the word "quiet" is simply a means of distinguishing this release from others that play to the media and arouse hype for its own sake. Other bands—Ghost, for example—draw on occult themes but do so with a keen eye on the media, as if the extra attention gives the music more of an edge. Don't get me wrong, I like Ghost, but I prefer the way Ancient VVisdom simply drops this new album without too much fanfare.

As for the music, it's basically melodic death rock. Catchy yet intense, the album moves forward effectively from start to finish. I especially liked the warmth and brightness of the guitars, a classic sound that never grows old. This is good stuff, but if you catch yourself singing some of these words out loud, especially when you're alone, it's best to keep some protection nearby. You never know what monsters might be real.
