Haunted, The: Exit Wounds
The Haunted's new album is just what you'd expect: a healthy dose of thrash / death metal played with ferocity. This band has been around for a long time and even though they've had several lineup changes, things still sound as powerful and as tight as ever. At times, the thrash elements of the music sound like they are pushing against the limits of the recording, hoping to burst into the open air. This is music for the stage and for the pit. Check it out!
Exit Wounds is also featured on the December 15, 2014 edition of "What's Hot with Sea of Tranquility" as found on YouTube. As always, Pete Pardo gives us a nice rundown of what's out there and why it matters.

Haunted, The: Exit Wounds Posted by Pete Pardo, SoT Staff Writer on 2014-12-20 06:49:48 My Score:
For their first full-length release after the return of Marco Aro to the lead vocal slot, Swedish melodic death metal/thrash veterans The Haunted are back firing on all cylinders in what is perhaps their strongest effort in years. Though they've had some ups and downs along the way, the band has been pretty solid throughout their career, but all the elements we've come to expect from these guys are more than evident throughout Exit Wounds. All the tracks from the Eye of the Storm 3 song single earlier this year appear here, and that's a good thing for those who didn't pick that up as "Eye of the Storm", "Infiltrator", and "My Enemy" are all strong numbers. Elsewhere, there's the blistering thrashy gallop of "Psychonaut", the intricate riffs of "My Salavation", and the bottom heavy grooves of "All I Have". On "Trend Killer" the band seems to poking fun of the nu-metal scene, right down to the feel of the song, and the rampaging "Kill the Light" is a delicious slice of Gothenburg styled melodic death metal, right down to the savage riffs, tasty twin lead work, and growling vocals from Aro. And "This War" just flat out crushes with some massive riffing, a really brutal track that ends way too soon.
Seeing as a couple of the members of The Haunted also reside in the resurgent At the Gates, it's kind of no surprise that both bands have delivered big time here in 2014. Exit Wounds is indeed very strong, and if you kind of gave up on the band over the last few years, there's reason to celebrate here.
