Mob Rules: Timekeeper - 20th Anniversary Box

German group Mob Rules are one of the most consistently impressive melodic metal bands. After seven studio albums Mob Rules have now released a greatest hits collection Timekeeper - 20th Anniversary Box to celebrate their twentieth anniversary, as the band was founded way back in 1994 by vocalist Klaus Dirks and guitarist Matthias Mineur. I can't comment greatly on the bonus live DVD as we only have access to the CD material for review purposes, of which there are three. The DVD apparently has live footage, official videos and bootleg material. Throw in an additional 44 page booklet and Timekeeper - 20th Anniversary Box is quite the collector's package.

There is a total of fifteen tracks on the first disc mostly taken from Mob Rule's studio albums the exceptions being two live tracks. The second has ten more though this time they are new recordings of a selection of their songs, Mob Rules' took this opportunity to give these a sound that is more inline with how the band sounds presently and it's interesting to compare the versions, like the keyboard addition which is so effective on the new version of "Insurgeria". Also for something different there are some notable guest performances and those contributors you can view below with the track listing. There are also two appealing cover songs on disc two which are of Rainbow's "Run With The Wolf" and the UFO number "Lights Out". The new songs are "Broken" which is quite ok, and the catchy "My Kingdom Come".

Sure there are other memorable Mob Rules tracks that I would have liked to see included here such as "Outer Space" off Temple Of Two Suns and "Children Of The Flames" and "Trial By Fire" from Radical Peace. Though there are plenty of top songs on Timekeeper - 20th Anniversary Box including like the popular "Black Rain" and a powerful live version of "Rain Song".

I'm not the biggest fan of "Greatest Hits" releases but this is release really is exceptional value and the extras here on Timekeeper - 20th Anniversary Box are very tempting.
