Now that I know the New York City quintet Gods of Fire augments its live shows with costume changes, epic imagery and female dancers and backup singers called the Fire-ettes, I can so picture that while listening to Wrath of the Gods, the band's startlingly impressive debut of raw, gritty and pure American metal. These guys dared to call themselves names like Saucy Jack (guitars), Prometheus (vocals) and DJ Blood Sacrifice (guitars and keys); commanded the attention of heavy-duty producer Wharton Tiers (Helmet, White Zombie); wrote songs based on Stephen King and Dan Simmons novels (The Long Walk, Hyperion) and Percy Bysshe Shelley's epic poems ("Prometheus Unbound"); and recorded a bunch of heavy, fun, melodic and intoxicating songs with such titles as "Welcome to Hell" and "Nectar of the Gods." What crazy fuckers!
