Spanish thrash metal veterans Angelus Apatrida are back with their fifth album, titled Hidden Evolution, out now on Century Media Records. Comprised of Guillermo Izquierdo (Guitars / Vocals),
David G. Álvarez (Guitars), José J. Izquierdo (Bass), and Víctor Valera (Drums), the band doesn't try to reinvent the wheel here on Hidden Evolution, but they are masters at their craft, combining some of the best elements from both the Bay Area & German thrash scenes into a blistering approach that works on all levels. Lots of manic riffs & flashy solos abound on tracks such as "Tug of War", "Serpents on Parade", and the crushing "First World of Terror", while "Wanderers Forever" bubbles, boils, and pummels like recent Testament, with some of the best guitar work of the album and lethal vocals from Izquierdo. "End of Man" is another tune with some splendid riffery & acrobatic drumming, while the epic title track slows things down a tad, throwing in some crunchy riffs and extra melody, almost like the early '90s Megadeth material.
Though it won't win awards for originality, Hidden Evolution is certainly a mighty fine modern day thrash album with more than a few nods to the bands we've loved for the last 30+ years.
