Here we have another stop-gap release from the Adrenaline Mob, a little tidbit to hold us over after their solid 2014 album Men Of Honor. Dearly Departed differs slightly from Covertą, the covers EP from 2013 that followed the bands debut, in that along with some covers we also get alternate versions of a few songs from Men of Honor. A few of these are acoustic versions, which may or may not be of interest to some, though "All on the Line" works quite well in this format, and we do get an unreleased song from those sessions, the rocking "Gets You Through the Night". The covers on the other hand are a lot of fun, as the band whips through scorching renditions of Pat Travers' "Snortin' Whiskey" and the Charlie Daniels Band hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", both featuring sizzling guitar work from Mike Orlando and Russell Allen's powerful vocal delivery. The Black Sabbath medley is very well done, and includes snippets from a few classic Sabbath tracks...I won't spoil the surprises so check it out and see if you can name them all. Thankfully, they aren't the obvious choices. The last cover is a rousing take on the Queen barnburner "Tie Your Mother Down", given royal treatment here with Allen getting all regal on us and Orlando laying down the heavy riffage.
All in all, Dearly Departed is an enjoyable, if not entirely essential release from the Adrenaline Mob camp while we wait for studio release number 3.
