Is Everybody Listening? is the new EP from London act Zoax, out now on Century Media Records. The question is, will anybody? That remains to be seen. Zoax is the new project from Axewound/Rise to Remain bassist Joe Copcutt, and he and his cohorts have put together 6 songs here that run the gamut from alternative rock, to metal, experimental noise, hardcore, pop, and everything in between. Vocalist Adam Carroll can basically do it all, but more often than not he chooses to unleash his screaming bellow, which can get mighty grating at times. His soaring clean vocals are actually great, and it's a shame he doesn't use them more, especially on the post rock/metal track "Click", where some additional melodic vocals would have saved what is otherwise ruined by his painful harsh screams. "Zero Point Seven" is actually pretty catchy, and for my money the moody, almost Anathema sounding "Right Words" actually gets my vote for the best song on the EP, followed closely by the melodic "Innocent Eyes". If only these guys could get Carroll to tone down his deafening roar a bit, they might actually have something here.
