Godhunter and Amigo the Devil: The Outer Dark

I've followed Godhunter pretty closely over the last year; in fact, their debut album AND their split with Secrets of the Sky were on my list of 2014's best albums. One of the best things about Godhunter is that they produce music that's hard to predict—and it's usually pretty good.

With this release—a collaborative 7" that delivers about 8 minutes of music—the band continues to take things in new, eclectic, directions. This time, the guys are joined by Danny Kiranos, also known as Amigo the Devil. Kiranos provides vocals and even plays the theremin on this recording. Side A has one track called "Weeping Willow," one of the sadder ballads I've heard in recent memory. It's good, but not something most people will want to play over and over again unless they are really, really, sad. Side B offers a cover of Nirvana's "Something in the Way" that manages to be bleak and awesome.

I still prefer the material Godhunter put out with Secrets of the Sky, but this is still impressive work.

Keep it coming, guys.
