Shams, The: One and All
The Shams are an Irish influenced rock band based out of San Francisco. They formed in 2011 and have recently released their debut EP One and All. The players are Sean Daly (lead vocals), Joe Kennedy (guitar and vocals), James Scragg (drums), Tommy O'Mahony (bass) and Henry Moser (lead guitar, vocals).
One and All is chalk full of irresistible melodies and catchy guitar riffs. Daly's Irish accented lead vocals add a unique charm to the band's Gaelic roots and gives these songs a pub-like atmosphere. Tunes like "Drinks Are On Me" and "Sick to Death" would be perfect drinking songs in an Irish pub. The fiddle of guest musician Kevin Tregar Otton adds another layer of melody to the band's feel good rock sound.
"Sunset Paddy's" starts the album with its super catchy guitar riffs and vocals subtly reminding me of Joe Strummer of The Clash. "Not Bothered" has a reggae lilt in the rhythms and good guitar and fiddle solos while the title track has a melodic folk rock sound.
One and All is one of those albums that will definitely get the party started. Six charming rock tunes that are just fun to listen to.
