Alco Frisbass: Alco Frisbass
Alco Frisbass is a French progressive rock duo consisting of:
Fabrice Chouette (keyboards, guitars, voice, recorder, whistling, percussion) and Patrick Dufour (Fender Rhodes, keyboards, drum programming, chimes).
Special guests include:
Thierry Payssan: sigma solos and Mellotron on "Judith Coupeuse De Tête"
Jacob Holm-Lupo: guitars on "La Suspension Ethéréenne" and "Judith Coupeuse De Tête"
Archimede De Martini: violin solos on "La Suspension Ethéréenne", "Pas A Pas" and "Escamotage"
The duo is influenced by the '70s Canterbury scene as their sound certainly has a jazzy aspect and the playing is complex yet quite melodic in places. There is a heavy use of keyboards throughout and there are some outstanding solos to be found. Dreamy Fender Rhodes piano begins "La Suspension Ethéréenne", a lovely track including violin, changing tempos and a menagerie of keyboard sounds. "Pas A Pas" is an excellent prog track that maintains its intensity all the way through. The organ and violin almost sound 'gothic' at times. "Induction Magnétique" is another slice of melodic symph with a nice rhythmic groove and outstanding organ and synths. "Escamotage" is the longest track at over twelve minutes. Vintage '60s style wordless vocals give this a retro feel with synths and organ expanding off the steady groove. "Judith Coupeuse de Tête" ends the album on a softer note with wonderful orchestrations although the keyboards do sound more intense as the song progresses.
Fans of symphonic rock and the Canterbury scene should really enjoy this one. A very high quality debut release from Alco Frisbass. Released on Fading Records, an offshoot of AltrOck Productions. Enjoy…
