Signum Regis was formed in 2007 by bass player Ronnie König and in early 2014 the band decided to make Mayo Petranin their new lead vocalist having previously dabbled with other names such as Göran Edman [ex. Yngwie Malmsteen], Lance King [ex. Pyramaze, Balance of Power], Matt Smith [Theocracy], Michael Vescera [Obsession], Daisa Munhoz [Vandroya, Soulspell] on their most recent album Exodus from 2013. During 2014 Signum Regis started to work on new material and it was decided that a 6 track EP would be released in May 2015 and the fourth full-length album during the latter part of 2015.
Through The Storm is that EP and my appetite is well and truly wetted for the album. There are four new tracks on the EP, as well as a re-recorded version of "All Over The World" from their debut album and a cover medley of the Yngwie Malmsteen classics "Vengeance/Liar". If Power metal isn't your thing you can disappear now but if it is then you may well want to invest in this one before going on to investigate Signum Regis' back catalogue. Filip Kolus and his guitar dominate this album, I very much enjoyed his playing throughout but each song appears to have been carefully crafted to avoid the many clichés which are so often prevalent in the genre – there's not a dragon in sight. This is grown up Power Metal and all the better for it. Hopefully the band can keep up the good work for the soon-to-be-released album.
