Pinder Brothers, The: Melancholy Sea
Here is proof that musicality runs in the DNA as Melancholy Sea, the third release from The Pinder Brothers, has seen the light of day. Of course, these are the sons of Moody Blues co-founder Mike Pinder.
The Pinder Brothers came on the scene with their debut Jupiter Falls, released in 2006, followed by Ordinary Man in 2008.
This is one of those records that brims with optimism, so much so you just can't help but being reeled in. Michael Pinder (vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, Mellotron flute and Vibraphone) and Matt Pinder (bass, guitar, vocals) form the core of the band but have some top notch musicians backing them up including Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder guesting on the last track.
The album opening "Same Mistake" is a heartfelt pop rock ditty with lush vocal harmonies and a catchy piano melody. "Pale December" is a heartfelt ballad with warm vocals and pretty acoustic guitar similar in flavour to Simon & Garfunkel or CSN. The blending of acoustic and electric guitar is very nice. The catchiness continues with the ear worm inducing pop rock of "Talk To You" and the bluesier "Trust Being You". "Trust Being You" has a country roots feel with some pretty nice slide guitar from Matt while "Last Days Of Summer" is another poignant mid-tempo rock number with great lead and background vocals, catchy guitar hooks and ripples of organ in the background.
Really, the hooks keep coming making Melancholy Sea one of the catchiest discs I have heard in an awfully long time. I have to say this has been a nice surprise as I was unfamiliar with the duo's music before now. If you have a penchant for delicious vocal harmonies and catchy pop rock grooves you really should check this out.

Pinder Brothers, The: Melancholy Sea Posted by Brad Parker on 2015-07-06 18:52:48 My Score:
Melancholy Sea is the best CD compared to many albums I've heard over the past few decades. The overall sound quality is perfect in every way. Their songs have much of the flavour I liked growing up in the late 1960's to '70's. Its highly unique and original with lyrics having good meaning which is most needed these days. It's very well produced , well written musically and lyrically with very nice arrangements . Thus, the over all performance is superb. As a song artist/composer , I give the Pinder Brothers' new CD a very enthusiastic two thumbs up. Brad Parker (Founder of Song Artist Grass Root Movement).
