I always get a little frisson of excitement when something from Svart Records drops into my inbox. Eclectic doesn't even begin to describe their roster, their current release schedule features; Finnish Blackmetal psychonauts Abyssion, The Exploding Eyes Orchestra, Festerday's ...The Four Stages Of Decomposition..., and of course, this one from Hard Action. Who are Hard Action I hear you ask? From the very recent beginnings of March 2014 by guitarist Ville Valavuo (Speedtrap, Death Toll 80K), drummer Markus Hietamies (Speedtrap, Forced Kill) and lead singer/guitarist Günter Kivioja (Chestburster) the line-up was finally completed in late 2014 with bass player A-P Heinola (First Times)the band are at least a decade out of step with the rest of the world – not that that is a terrible thing, oh no.
Fellow Scandinavians Hellacopters and Turbonegro and possibly the Hives and certainly 1970s Detroit spring readily to mind and if Ville Valavuo formed the group mainly to show off his guitar picking skills then he made the correct decision. His squealing yet melodic guitar lines flow effortlessly over the top of a concise bunch of garagey type songs which just beg to be played as loud as possible. The album clocks in at well under forty minutes so there's no excuse not to just press play again!
