George, Robin: Dangerous Music II

Angel Air Records has done a great job in recent years keeping the music of underrated vocalist/guitarist Robin George available to the general public, and here we have another release of his 1986 album Dangerous Music II. Basically, back in 1985, George released the critically acclaimed album Dangerous Music which had the hit "Heartline", and recorded the follow-up a year later that unfortunately never saw the light of day until now. Robin's band at the time included Charlie Morgan (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), and Daniel Boone (backing vocals, keyboards), and they subsequently broke up when the album got delayed and then never released, freeing the guitarist to then form Notorious with former Diamond Head vocalist Sean Harris.

If you loved the first Dangerous Music album, this sequel doesn't stray too far from that formula, which for most will be a good thing (don't fix what ain't broke!) George's high pitched, melodic vocals and crunchy guitar work permeate these catchy, glossy pop/rock tunes, with songs like "Dangerous Music", "Heart to Heart", "Streetwise", the Robert Plant sounding "Don't Come Crying", and the charming synth pop number "Machine" really standing out. "Ace in My Hand" really rocks hard, complete with George's metallic riffs and blazing solos (he's a vastly underrated guitarist), and the intoxicating "Red For Danger" is a can't miss track, and no surprise that Robert Plant himself chose to cover it on his Sixty Six To Timbuktu album.

Thanks to Angel Air, this very fine album can now be enjoyed by everyone who has been waiting for its official release for a very long time.

George, Robin: Dangerous Music II

My Score:

Robin George came to prominence in the '80s with his 1985 hit "Heartline" taken from the Dangerous Music album. If truth be told I don't remember the song but after listening to it a few times on YouTube I can hear why it was a big hit. A good '80s pop rock track for sure. Soon after the release of Dangerous Minds George wrote the subsequent follow up Dangerous Music II but because of record company red tape and other factors which I will not get into here was never released at the time.

So, what do you get with Dangerous Music II? Well, you must remember this is a product of its time. If you like '80s pop rock you will love this disc. The music is catchy with infectious choruses, good guitar play and just a fine batch of solid songs. From the catchy pop rock of "Streetwise", "The American Way" and "Heart To Heart" to the more straight ahead rock of "Ace In My Hand" to the synth pop sound of "Machine" and the acoustic backed "Flying", one of the catchiest on the disc, there are plenty of tunes to dig into. The ending acoustic/power ballad "Johnny" is another highlight featuring excellent acoustic and electric guitar.

Solid guitar work and catchy vocal arrangements permeate this disc. It's a quality pop rock album that should satisfy fans of the genre. Angel Air Records has got it right once again.
