Powerwolf: Blessed & Possessed
You will know within the opening thirty seconds whether or not you will enjoy Powerwolf's latest opus. As their career has moved on apace they have become somewhat of an ACDC of power metal. The opening of the title track (unsurprisingly given the title) features Latin, a huge choir and a massive riff as indeed do all great Powerwolf songs. They know what they are doing and they do it very well. Preachers of the Night topped the German charts so they must be doing something right.
Blessed & Possessed is about as progressive as Ed Sheeran but infinitely better and Hallelujah remains the most used word – or at least seems to be. The sound of "Blessed & Possessed" is simply huge, "Dead Until Dark" which is followed by "Army of the Night" are both tremendous examples of songs which ally Powerwolf's cacophonous sound with catchy tunes. If there is any slight change to their sound it is that they might be slightly more commercial than previously but only in the same way which Sabaton – a band with who they have much in common – can be deemed commercial. The key example of that is the excellent "We are the Wild" which confirms Powerwolf as a very safe bet every time.
