Khemmis: Absolution
When I was younger, I loved playing Dungeons and Dragons, reading fantasy stories, and watching fantasy films. Nothing could capture my imagination more than wizards and knights and skeletons in armor. The album art on this release takes me right back to those delightful days. Take a look at that image—you know it's awesome.
This is a very good album, one that starts well with "Torn Asunder" and builds up to the strong and solid closer "The Bereaved." The music blends doom metal with an old school passion for clean vocals, harmonized guitars, and good riffs. I try not to label music as "throwback," especially since there are good reasons to draw on the past for inspiration—and sometimes just for the love of it. This album certainly wants to recreate an old school sound while also winding its way through the fuzz and warmth of solid doom metal in convincing and creative ways. On the whole, the album screams with ambition, talent, and creativity. Long live doom rock!
