For those unfamiliar with Danielz, he fronted the British band Tarazara in the mid-Eighties and then formed a T.Rex tribute band called T.Rextasy. In between those two projects, he recorded this album — previously unreleased until Angel Air unearthed it.
Some Romantic Night-The Solo Years sounds very much of its time. It's synth-riddled glam pop with handclaps, simple guitars and sexy saxes. "Personal Touch," "Master Plan" and the title track could have been radio hits in the United States, but other songs (most recorded in 1987 and 1988) don't resonate much today. "Silent Heart" from 1983 has a Sixties-ballad vibe, and the production value renders "Gunshots at Midnight" almost unlistenable. Danielz provides details about most songs in the liner notes.
Four acoustic demos serve as bonus tracks — two originals, plus covers of The Kinks' "Celluloid Heroes" and Bob Dylan's "Stuck Inside of Mobile." Although they were recorded "for just personal pleasure in a Marc Bolan-influenced kind of way," according to Danielz, they have aged better than much of the other material here.
Some Romantic Night-The Solo Years might be fun to hear once, but it's really intended for true Danielz, Tarazara and Marc Bolan fans only.
