Unbreakable Hatred: Ruins

I always enjoy a good technical death metal album and this one is no exception. Unbreakable Hatred has actually been at it for nearly 8 years and has worked hard to establish a reputation as an unstoppable and brutal death metal force. Some of our readers may already know what this band has done in the past. This album, my introduction to the band, is very impressive; relentless and punishing, each track assaults the ears and the rest of the body. This is not a bad thing. I suppose that some listeners will find things to be a little too intense, especially the way the band tries to fill up every single quiet moment with a fill of one form or another. I understand that, but for those who feel that way, give the album another listen. The guitar fills are played with skill and speed and even bring a hint of melody to the music here and there. The drums are certainly relentless, exhausting even, but the skill and proficiency of this style is often the point of this style of music. The vocals are rough and harsh, not always my favorite thing about this style, but they don't detract from things. Instead, they work alongside everything else. The bass playing is also cool, especially at the beginning of the title track ("Ruins") where it adds some extra timbre from the strings in a way that makes it sound even cooler.

"Ruins" was my favorite track, but I would also recommend "Unspeakable Hatred," a brutal and powerful song. I would also recommend "Addiction" and "Primitive Thoughts." This is an impressive new release, but not one for the casual death metal fan. Check out the cover art, too!
