Dancing in Limbo is the sixth release from Belgium space rock collective Quantum Fantay, a four track excursion into the stratosphere tailor made for any fan of Ozric Tentacles, of whom main man Ed Wynne just happens to be a good friend and idol of Quantum Fantay's keyboard maestro Pete Mush. With their brand of proggy space rock mixed with trance, ambient, and dub elements, the band blend hypnotic rhythms with blipping synths and searing electric guitar for a style that's not far removed from what we've loved from the Ozric's for decades. Interesting thing here is that all four song titles rhyme with each other, and each is almost exactly the same length, save for one second longer than the previous. Pretty cool concept, and I'm sure it must have been a bitch to program this so perfectly, but in the end, you'll not pay much attention to that as each track segues into the next, the pulsating rhythms, zig zagging guitar explorations and alluring keyboard tapestries just sweep you off your feet. In typical Ozric fashion, don't expect a wealth of difference from track to track, but "Limbo" has some SERIOUS groove to it, and is easily the most addicting track here. Honestly though, once you hit play on track one, "Nimbo", it's a bubbling, boiling, intoxicating ride all the way, and a lot of fun. The band even mix in some ethnic instruments like Djembe & Didgeridoo along the way to keep things even more interesting.
For fans of space rock, Dancing in Limbo is a can't miss album and well worth seeking out. Released on Progressive Promotion Records.
