Psychic Warfare is the new album by Clutch, actually it's their eleventh and a riveting assortment of that catchy stomping/grooving music. Clutch bring the rock, blues and a touch of funk creating a very appealing mixture of songs. Including eleven tracks or actually twelve if you include the brief but clever spoken introduction "The Affidavit". Clutch then hook you big time with pumping rocker "X-Ray Visions", it's so cool how the drums flow from this track into another upbeat rocker "Firebirds". Like the faster "Sucker For The Witch", "A Quick Death In Texas" is such a compelling groover with great lyrics telling how it doesn't pay to play up in Texas.
"Son Of Virginia" is the second slow brooding track after "Our Lady Of Electric Light", "Son Of Virginia" builds in heaviness and is by far the longest track on the album at over seven minutes while the others pass by quite promptly. Psychic Warfare really is a great all round effort by the long running group from Fredrick Maryland, full of passionate and tasteful performances. Clutch's prior release Earth Rocker was such a great album and Psychic Warfare upholds the fact that Clutch are still in fine form and remain one of the best and most consistent.
