There are only good reasons to discover a band like Atavismo—and this is now our second chance to do so. This album actually came out in 2014, but it can now be purchased on vinyl and is definitely worth checking out in any format. . I listened to a digital copy, but I'll bet it sounds even better coming through the speakers of an old-fashioned turntable. The music here often feels like an extended psychedelic jam, but it is never self-indulgent or spaced out in ways that alienate listeners. Instead, the music establishes a beautiful atmosphere and sticks to it in ways that can only be described as enchanting. I've listened to the album quite a bit lately and I find it to be consistently surprising, engaging, and comforting. By "comforting," I don't mean easy to process, just that the music puts the mind at ease, allowing thoughts to roam freely across an ever-expanding musical soundscape. This is music for a calming evening after a hard day. Turn it on and let your thoughts wander.
