Explosion Of Mind: Explosion Of Mind

Explosion Of Mind is a one man project led by guitarist Ova Banchu. It has been difficult to find information (no website to my knowledge) about the artist but I believe Explosion Of Mind is his first release. Banchu plays guitar, bass synth, programming, studio effects and also adds lead vocals.

The album is very guitar centric and Banchu is a fine player adding leads and some pretty cool riff progressions, particularly in the ten plus minute "Acid Ants Ascending". The sound is edgy, even a bit psychedelic as Banchu lets loose with some unusual chord structures. The first track "She's The One" has a more pop rock sound while "Force of Dreams" features trippy guitar excursions and an overall quirky sound. For more trippiness try the atmospheric improvisation of "Passage to In" or the twelve minute "Suffering Inner Space", not so much a song as it is a bizarre collection of weird effects and spacey textures. Can't say I am a fan of this one but I give the artist credit for trying something totally different. For a heavier feel the squelching lead guitar and gritty riffs of the title track will bring you back down to earth.

While I didn't love every track, Explosion Of Mind certainly has potential. I like the varied approach and although not a perfect album I enjoyed the bulk of these tunes. It will be interesting to hear what the next album brings.
