Groundless: Adrenaline

Groundless is a heavy rock back band from Finland with their just released debut album Adrenaline now under their belts. The music is straight up hard driving heavy rock with catchy guitar riffs and strong lead vocals. Big choruses add to the ear candy and the backing vocals are quite good throughout the album. The press release states Linkin Park and Avenged Sevenfold as influences but since I have not heard either band I cannot comment further on that assessment.

The first four cuts are just what you would expect from a hard rock band; powerful roughly hued lead vocals, huge guitar riffs and a tight rhythm section with good melodies to entrap the listener. The fifth cut "Eight and a 3rd" changes it up with a lovely dark style ballad including emotive lead vocals and pretty cello from guest musician Vivian S. It's back to full out balls to the wall heaviness with the urgent title track where the lead vocalist screams and soars his way through the hard hitting lyrics, that is until a wonderfully moody acoustic led section leads us back to the heavy riffs and a ripping guitar solo.

The mid-tempo "Once Again" offers another reprieve from the heaviness utilizing a smart use of acoustic and electric guitars and an ultra-catchy chorus.

Although there are some mellower moments where the band inject atmosphere and moodienss, this is mostly a heavy rocking affair with excellent vocals and catchy riffs. Groundless are certainly a band to watch for in the coming years.
