Melodic rockers Khymera are back having previously released three albums, nothing too recent though as the last The Greatest Wonder was some seven years ago. Now with sole returning member Dennis Ward, bass player of Pink Cream 69 and Unisonic and it's with Khymera that Ward has an added role as lead vocalist and he does a top job.
Ward is very much in the control seat also taking care of the songwriting and the slick production, and together with his new crew they have recorded an album that takes you back in time with rock solid musicianship and catchy AOR tunes a plenty titled The Grand Design. Edguy fans will be interested to note that drummer Felix Bohnke performs on the album, with Khymera of course requring a much a more straightforward style than that of his main band. Some of strongest melodic hooks can be found on "Land Of Golden Dreams" and "Finally" two of my album standouts, there's twelve tracks on The Grand Design so there's ample rocking Kymera's style with their wonderful vocals hamonies.
I'm not sure how big the demand is for this kind of music nowadays, but there's no doubt that Khymera would have been very popular back in the eighties when it surely was, alongside those like Journey, Survivor, Bad English, Night Ranger etc. etc. So if that's your thing then you need to hear Khymera as The Grand Design sure has it.
